The Rural Alberta Advantage

When I was in Alberta a few years ago I wouldn't have thought there was anything to inspire someone to write great music, and yet the RAA have managed to do just that. Thats because - don't let the name fool you - these guys are from Toront-uh. Check-da-check-check check-check it out.

RAA - In the Summertime

Also feel free to check out this blog entitled "Bridging the Atlantic" they've compiled a bunch of blogs 'Top picks for 2009'. Enjoy

Pitchfork' Top 100

So i wanted to see where my measly top 10 stacked up against a 'super site' like Pitchfork and what i found was that they had compiled an Ubermensch of a list, "Top 100 songs of 2009". I nearly crapped myself. i worked my way through the list and realized that i had actually attempted the impossible because i couldn't even comprehend just how many amazing songs came out this year. Sure, i could have had an honourable mentions list going on for 3 pages but then that would defeat the purpose of a Top Ten. Bands like Phoenix with "1901" and "lystomania", Bon Iver' "Blood Bank", or my biggest blunder Matt & Kim's "daylight" which in my mind is hands down winner for 2009, which i completely forgot to mention in my list! But i think that my list is still pretty spot on, with the exception of Daylight, and maybe some others that have slipped my mind.
I was a little disappointed with their Top Ten actually, it had both Phoenix songs i previously mentioned, and My girls by Animal collective as #1. Phoenix is great, and so is Animal collective, but all i have to say to that is NO, wrong, disagree, incorrect. With that being said, I wont go into further depth as to why i disagree but i will say that my Top Ten is better than yours! nah nah nah. Also Im going to continue sifting through your list, and if i find out Cave Singers is not on your list, i will write an angry letter.

New song, #100 on their list. Darkstar - Aidy's Girl's A Computer

Diamond Dangermouse

Keep your eyes peeled for these two.

Diamond Rings from Toronto recently opened for The Balconies at Cafe Dekcuf and absolutely killed it. I had never heard of the band and opted out of even seeing him - as it was The Balconies i was interested in - The decision proved to be unwise because when i arrived he was still on stage, and I instantly loved it. His name is John O, and he was a one man show, looping music off his computer, while playing the piano and singing. I love this guys Bowie-esk gender bending steez, and I wish him all the best. Look out for Diamond Rings, a keeper in my mind.

Broken Bells is a new band featuring the shins lead singer, and the music producer from Dangermouse. I dont know? Anyways if you know anything, and think about this duo for just a second, your head will blow the fuck up. Dj dangermouse who is probably best known for his grey album, remixing the beatles and Jay-Z, is now paired up with the shins to create what - so far - seems like the greatest band ever! haha. Anyways also keep your eyes open for these guys. Guaranteed hit
Broken Bells - High Road

People = ...Shit?

The video is a song by Richard Cheese entitled People=shit. Its got the lyrics so you can sing along.

The second video is song by Slipknot also entitled people=shit.

Well what i found out is that Richard Cheese made a cover of the song, and the original is in fact by Slipknot. Listen to the difference it is mind bottling to think this is the same song. Obviously Richard Cheese is a genius. genius genius genius.

Stay the Fuck Away

I randomly stumbled across this song on hypem and thought it was hilarious (because it is). Its not a very good song but they make up for it with their blunt, pissed off lyrics.

Olivier Lemieux

Sleigh Bells

Heres a typical super-scenester band called 'sleigh bells'. Found this band on a blog that also featured videos of fixed gear bikes. Fucking typical. Also look at her tattoos, shes probably an original. Guess what you music technically sucks. Lyrics are lame as shit, bass is stupidly distorted, but for that reason its something you can jam too. Outside of something like MOD night i give this band a thumbs down. Check them out anyways, its a love-hate relationship.

Sleigh bells - Ring Ring
Sleigh Bells - Crown on the Ground

Pinned Down With Pinback

These guys are greeaaaat. I would have never expected them to look like this. Once you listen to them you'll understand. They have a miracle fortress-esk vibe about them. Really easy listening, basic lyrics. Catchy catchy. Check them out.

Its Grand

The whole world knows Matt & Kim's Daylight (Thanks to Bacardi or some other stupid thing like that), obviously, or else I wouldnt have to go through literally 5 pages of it on hypem. But I wanted to post some of there other stuff because there actually pretty sick. They have a few really catchy tunes on there new-ish album Grand. As well as some older stuff like Yea Yeah, Silver Tiles (Emma T. Respect).
I dont find them particularly talented but they got there own distinct sound and thats key. Someone once said to me that Matt & Kim are "Anti-emo", and i think they were right. This shit gets into your head and gets you pretty pumped to be alive. (Anti-emo!)

Kid Cudies

"heil hitler!"

Kid Cudi is straight killing it. Simon Noel is my rap connection at the bakery, so you can thank him for both these tracks. Every sunday we bust out the boombox 2000 and jam. I provide the emo, him and rory provide the retarded mash ups and dirty south, straight bossin' shiit. Peace! word to ya motha.

I will also mention the party in the USA track he showed me its a remix of party and bullshit/miley cyrus, check it out its super pumping

Sia Later

Sia is an Auzzy pop singer who I found about a year ago. Shes a goof with a snaggle tooth, but shes got some pretty dope songs such as Breathe me, and buttons. (which also has a super sick music video. Check it out) Shes got a pretty good sound going for her and I look forward to hearing what else she has to offer.

Sia - Bring it to me

Right click and "save as" works here too boys.

Pulp Fiction

I was thinking about how Erik has never seen Pulp fiction and how upsetting that was. So i went on youtube just to remind myself why i love this movie so much.

The future is here

Right now I'm sitting in class updating my blog. My mind has officially been bottled. I heard a sick new crystal castles song this morning, it sounds angry, that's right. Angry techno. I'll post it up latter because you can't copy and paste things on iPod touches. If you could my brain would probably explode. Peace and love. Fuck off!

Ok forget the angry techno. that was then, this is now. I just stumbled across some of the best music videos i've ever seen. Thanks to vimeo, they were right on the front page. AMAZING.

The song is amazing, the VIDEO, is even better! Modest mouse at its best i think. Ive been jamming some of there older songs lately and i've been re-stoked. Brings back the OC days. Haha.

Video Here!!!!!!!! (embed didnt work)

Now. This video is from Air a band i know nothing about. Ive checked out some of there other stuff and i like what i see. Try and not smile while you watch this one,

Take a look see.

So laceyourface is back with a new name. I Decided to give it a face lift because i was no longer stoked on the direction of lace. Aka stupid shit.
The title, name, whatever, is from a Red Hot Chili Peppers song called... Yeah you guessed it, "road trippin". I heard the song for the first time a few weeks ago and it got me so pumped. So i thought it appropriate to put it at the top of my page.

As for the web address, Bittertune. Thats taken from my favorite song from my favorite band, Elliot Brood. "Bitter Tea, Bitter Tune".

Now that that's all cleared up (cause i know you care) i have a treat for you, from that band, Elliot Brood.

Ukulele Ukulele Ukulele's everywhere!!! This band is awesome. Enjoy,

Thanks Jian.

Ps. Quote of the day will stay.
