Train Wreck of the Century

What happens, you ask, when two trains collide? Well it seems such an event transpired yesterday evening. Two of the biggest goons we know, Batti and Trainwreck in the same room together. A mish-mash of super-high waisted skirts, excessive and inappropriate cleavage, broken heels drunkity, and some sort of cultured head accessory. Surely this would spell disaster? Well folks, see for yourselves.

Shame on you! SHHHAME!

We Are Wolves

Alright so... Band review?

Ive only recently gotten into this band and Im not quite sure how i heard about them but as it turns out they are produced by Howard Bilerman (zOMG i know him!). We Are Wolves are a bilingual electro-rock band from Montreal that sound a little like Yeasayer (dare i be so bold). Anyways my knowledge of the band is almost none, and of music in general, even less. But I will say this. WAW arent one of those crazy life changing revolutionary bands, they are simple, and in some ways their sound is a little (just a little) tired. They boast a raunchy rock-pop steez with a noisy, 'crowded', and heavily synthesized sound. Their newest shit, 'invisible violence' (october 2009) is, as Pitchfork has noted, way more tame then its predecessor. When reading Pitchforks review they actually seem a little pissed haha, but i dont really see there new approach as a bad thing. Bitchfork says, "Even the band seems bored with their chosen genre, and they can't seem to muster the level of intensity that once set their electro-rock apart." But in all honesty "electro-rock" can get pretty fuckin old, pretty fuckin fast, and sometimes even down right irritating. So good on them for switching it up a bit, because if you listen to their "best song" off the last album, 'Fight & Kiss' more than 5 times, it gets fuckin' annoying. With that being said, I am no die hard fan and their lack of integrity does not bug me one bit. I actually prefer the newer album because its more toned down, and easier to listen to. WAW is a pretty intoxicating band, with some good bangers, new and old.

We Are Wolves - Blue

6.75 out of 10 on the Sickter Scale.
Yeah take that pitchfork, 2 motherfuckin' decimal points.

I wanna share some of my favourite new tracks that I found via my usual blog circuit, WHICH Id also like to share with you because theyre the besst. The Ampeater, which is one of my very favourite sites, is dedicated to 7" inch vinyls. They feature a new band every day and a free digital download of every vinyl! They also write some of the best/funniest/comprehensive reviews of each band. If you love music like I do, this site is a god send. Also, Tsururadio , which is some dirty gypsy hipster's blog that can be pretty entertaining to read because hes rather funny. He also has some good album/track reviews, and free mp3 downloads which is always nice. And last but not least, P(B)itchFork, whats there to say? Pretty much the King of music sites...Also, id like to mention, i find alot of music via my own genius. I pride myself on being ON TOP OF SHIT! haha. jusss so you know.

WHAT!?

For 50 years, residents of the French village of Pont-Saint-Esprit have tried to understand the "cursed bread" incident, a moment of terrifying mass insanity and hallucinations that left at least five dead and dozens in asylums. Now the mystery is solved: the CIA secretly spiked the bread from the bakery with enormous quantities of LSD as part of its cold war mind-control experiments, at least according to recently uncovered documents. The allegation originates with H P Albarelli Jr., an investigative journalist who uncovered the documents while researching his forthcoming book, A Terrible Mistake: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA's Secret Cold War Experiments.

"One man tried to drown himself, screaming that his belly was being eaten by snakes. An 11-year-old tried to strangle his grandmother. Another man shouted: "I am a plane", before jumping out of a second-floor window, breaking his legs. He then got up and carried on for 50 yards. Another saw his heart escaping through his feet and begged a doctor to put it back. Many were taken to the local asylum in strait jackets...
Scientists at Fort Detrick told him that agents had sprayed LSD into the air and also contaminated "local food products".

Mr Albarelli said the real "smoking gun" was a White House document sent to members of the Rockefeller Commission formed in 1975 to investigate CIA abuses. It contained the names of a number of French nationals who had been secretly employed by the CIA and made direct reference to the "Pont St. Esprit incident." In its quest to research LSD as an offensive weapon, Mr Albarelli claims, the US army also drugged over 5,700 unwitting American servicemen between 1953 and 1965.

Sea Breeze

WHOA WHOA WHOA. I can only speak for these particular songs (as i am too lazy to check their other stuff out) but Washed Out is just Überraschen. If you wanna talk about summer music, this band should be pretty high up on your list. The album is called "life of leisure" for God sakes. I feel like Ernest Greene, the lead singer, just discovered multiple exposures and was like "Yo, its like im washed out, like a ghost! Whoa that'd be a sick name for a Band!?". The only reason i think that is because I googled Washed Out and all kinds of artsy fartsy doubly exposed pictures of himself came up. What do you think Bryan? Holga?. Haha Whatever, with that being said, Washed Out is super sick, and the name is rather appropriate given the music. peep

Spring Essentials

Ive really been lacking on my posts partly due to my inability to find any SICK new music. I Just havent been stoked on much. But let me tell you about my new friend. His name is Emancipator. HE IS SUMMERTIME. Emancipator makes these incredible instrumentals that conjure images of summertime, and just relax you no matter how stressed you may be feeling. Case in point, i was stuck in some bad ass traffic and i jammed some of this, boom, i instantly rolled down that window, and took in that cool spring air. It was perfect. Believe me, download as much Emancipator as you can get your hands on. It'll bring you right back to last summer, and remind you of some of your best memories. Mine is in the car, on the way to the wakefield bridge with a few of my friends, all the windows rolled down, river-road style. Ya dig?

" ‘Safe In The Steep Cliffs’ represents the tightest, most unique, most organic beats I’ve made in the last three years. This album has a new palette of sounds and samples from around the world, including more original recordings (guitar/violin/mandolin/banjo) and new guest artists including Japanese jazz musician Uyama Hiroto. It’s ominous and overgrown, dense and ethereal. And epic. Always epic" -Doug Appling/ Emancipator

My Ipod

Ive been going through my Ipod this week clearing off alot of bullshit songs (i.e. Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl). Alot of which I have no idea how they got there. Weird shit. Alot of songs I had actually never heard before because I can get pretty ridiculous when downloading full discographies and shiii. This gave me the opportunity to organize/create some new playlists. Playlists which I like to name based either on; mood setting, or level of goodness, etc. This time I tried to do something ive tried to do soooooo many times in the past, by creating the ULTIMATE playlist. But seriously, a playlist so good that you wouldnt ever have to skip a song, or ever ever ever get bored of. This was so hard in fact that i created a secondary playlist entitled "Didn't Make the Cut"...Yeah thats how serious im taking this. haha. This playlist included some of my very favourites, but ones I felt wouldnt survive the test of time. SO, this is an early draft, and will most likely change. Here you go, my first - serious - attempt at making the best playlist EVER conceived. According to me of course.

Elliot Brood - Write it all down for you
Otis Taylor - Ten Million Slaves
Clint Mansell - Requiem For a Dream
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Scar Tissue
3 Inches of Blood - Axes of Evil
Ennio Morricone - L'estasi Dell'Oro
Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams
Cave Singers - Vv
Oren Lavie - Her Morning Elegance
Semisonic - Closing Time
Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence
Yelle - Ce Jeu
John Dahlback - Blink
Zion I - Coastin'
Ray LaMontagne - You are the best thing
Spoon - The way we get by
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home
The verve - Bittersweet symphony
The Rural Alberta Advantage - In the Summertime
Will - Wont be so Down
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under the Bridge
Matt & Kim - Daylight
Cave Singers - At the cut
Oasis - Wonderwall
Wolf Parade - I'll believe in anything
Nas -Get Down
City & Colour - The Death of Me
Elliot Brood - The Valley Town
Clint Mansell - Dead Reckoning
Fat Boy Slim - Right here, Right Now

Some of these songs have actually been on my ipod for almost 6 years!

Proof

I have a theory! Die Antwoord is a fake, joke band. Comedic geniuses sent to fool all the gullible scenesters into buying fancy pancy t-shirts with their names on them. I just read an interview they had with Pitchfork and as far as im concerned, its proof that they're joking:

Pitchfork: Where do you guys live now?
DA: At the moment Ninja is staying at his chommie Dragon's crib. Dragon is Ninja's personal trainer. He's from the Congo. Dragon is teaching Ninja gorilla style at the moment. Part of this training involves watching National Geographic wildlife movies about gorillas in the mist. Yo-Landi is staying at her mom for a few days cos she has to wash some clothes before her trip to L.A. in two weeks time. DJ Hi-Tek is fokken missing as usual (his phone is never on). He lives with his gran.
Pitchfork: Was there one moment of epiphany when you saw the potential of, as you say, your inner zef and the potential of Die Antwoord?
DA: Ninja, Yo-Landi, and DJ Hi-Tek were at a rave at Ninja's parents' house when they discovered Die Antwoord. We actually are making a high-energy, totally next-level, rap-rave feature film about this called The Answer. We would compare it to District 9, but just with more rave and more rap. This feature film is part of the reason why some people are flying Ninja and Yo-Landi to L.A. in two weeks' time.

I was talking about it with my boss and we noticed that we had scene this before. This is Spinal Tap has done it, and of course the OG "Zef"rapper Ali G, who even makes reference to Ja, which is mentioned in this interview. Theres no way someone is that retarded, come on they refer to District 9 "just with more rave and more rap". Me thinks they be joking. And if right, theyre genius.

You heard it here first. I am God. I am ultimate.

EPIC

I was just listening to the Machine and this track came on (I nearly shhhiit), and i started asking myself. Whhhhhhhaaaaaaaaat is this? Whhhhhhhhhhhere did you come from? Whoooooooooooooo is responsible for this?..The song, it sounds so familiar, where have i heard this? Oh yeah, "The good, the bad, and the Fuckin' Ugly!" and probably a hundred other movies. I've always been a sucker for epicly orchestrated pieces of music like Requiem for a Dream, Dead Reckoning, and that battle track from Troy and Avatar, and this is right there on that list. (What i should say is im a sucker for Clint Mansell. Hes unreal) The original is really good, but the remix is way more pumping..

(also found out it was in this Superbowl commercial)

Ennio Morricone - L'estasi Dell'Oro(remix)
Clint Mansell - Lux Aeterna

At least i have alot of money, spend alot of money, and look like i spend alot of money... Bitch

Nostalgic

"...the Cave Singers' mild, moseying tunes aren't without their minor charms, and they're unfailingly good at conjuring images of wide-open fields and dust-caked lanes, but nobody wants to walk down the same road all the time if they can help it." - Pitchfork.com

I thought id search the band just to hear what pitchfork had to say about one of my favourites. And after reading the review I was pretty disappointed. The excerpt i chose is the most flattering part of the review, and thats not saying a lot. While they are right in saying that alot of there songs are similar, i simply cant see how walking down that 'road' - the Cave singer road - could ever get old. Their songs flood you with images of sunny wheat fields, setting suns, warm summer nights and could inspire anyone to drive cross country playing only them (doesn't that just make you feel warm and cudly on the inside?). And for a song/band to do that on a consistent basis (some would say repetitive. I would have to disagree) is nothing short of perfection. Now before i get too sentimental about the whole thing, I would just like to say that i have written this to come to the defence of great band. Who have found a permanent place in my heart. 10/10

The Hood Internet

I've never been one for mashups (yeah i had a Girl talk phase and shit. so did everyone) BUT this duo by the name of "The Hood Internet" are sooo pitted. I thought they were fresh or something but apparently not because they have well over 100 'songs' and like 89 trillion mixtape albums. I've only really listened to the 4th and what ive heard so far is pitted as fuck, especially this MJ/Ratatat mashup, which stands alone with Hathbangers party and bullshit track as the two best mashups ever. EVER. But lets face it. Were all gonna hate these guys in like 5 months. NOBODY likes mashups for long, they get tired, annoying, and whatever the opposite of pitted is. On that note, check these songs out there buck.

Patrick llepoiddedonivivnevin

"Pat LePoidevin was born and raised in the small town of Princeton, British Columbia in 1987. Pat has been honing his sound in Sackville for several years and is known for his ability to incorporate a wide assortment of instrumentation into his dynamic live shows. His interest in music began at the age of 10 when he started playing the bagpipes while living in Scotland for a year. Recently, Pat has started using a looper pedal, creating an eclectic fusion using many instruments such as the fiddle, practice chanter, acoustic guitars, ukuleles, and vocals. LePoidevin is currently studying History and Classics at Mt. Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. Greatly influenced by the excellent music scene in Sackville, Pat will be releasing his latest work "Moonwolves" somewhere comfortable in late January." - CBC Radio 3

Pat is amazingly talented, and from what i've heard thoroughly entertaining. I've yet to see him live, but word on the street is hes coming to the sheep in the spring and you can count on me being there. Two albums in two years at twenty-two years of age - keep it up!

Check out his unreleased material here as well as his old album "blue tornadoes" (this will just bring you to cbc radio 3, but you can search him and you get all his stuff)

Or his myspace
